How to Become an AI Business Strategist (No Coding Required)

An AI business strategist helps a business find where it loses time, leads or customers, then recommends and sets up practical AI-assisted systems to fix it. You do not need to code to start: the job begins with understanding a business problem, and the tools come second.

What does an AI business strategist do?

An AI business strategist looks at how a business actually runs: how leads come in, how customers are onboarded, how internal work gets done. They find the biggest bottleneck, recommend the simplest useful fix, and help put it in place.

Typical problems include missed calls and messages, slow response to new leads, weak customer follow-up, repetitive administrative tasks, slow client onboarding and delayed invoicing. The goal is never to install AI because it is new. The goal is to improve a measurable part of the business.

Do you need to know how to code?

No. Most of the work is diagnosing the problem and then choosing and configuring existing AI tools, workflows and automation platforms. Some tools take technical learning along the way, but coding is not the starting point. A useful rule: problem first, tool second, implementation third.

What skills do you need?

Three skill sets matter:

  • Business consulting: diagnosing problems and understanding what they cost the business.
  • Marketing and customer understanding: knowing what customers need and how leads become customers.
  • AI implementation: using large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, writing good prompts, and connecting business software through automations.

The role is not about knowing every AI tool. It is about finding the right problem and choosing a useful solution.

How do you get your first client?

Most beginners find their first client through a handful of channels:

  • Their existing network and warm introductions
  • Local businesses
  • Online and digital businesses
  • Freelance platforms such as Upwork
  • Personalised cold emails with consistent follow-up

Keep the offer narrow. Choose one or two business types and one clear starter offer instead of promising "AI for everything."

A realistic path to getting started

  1. Learn to use large language models well, including prompting, research and document analysis.
  2. Pick one business type and one problem area: lead capture and conversion, fulfilment and customer experience, or operations.
  3. Package one simple offer around a measurable outcome.
  4. Build a small demonstration of the solution.
  5. Talk to prospective clients, deliver the work, improve it, and look for the next problem inside that client's business.

Where the BJKU AI Strategist Program fits

The BJKU AI Strategist Program is a practical, no-code training program from BJK University. BJK University was founded and is led by Bashar J. Katou, and the program is run together with Stephen Hilgart, a partner of the program. It is organised around three areas (lead capture and conversion, fulfilment and customer experience, and operations) and includes access to a community on Skool.

BJK University reports 10,000+ students and a 4.9 rating on Trustpilot, as shown on bjkuniversity.com. BJK reports that on average students land their first paying AI client within 69 days and generate on average $3,150 from that client. The program's guarantee: land your first AI client within 90 days, or BJK works with you for free for another 90 days. These are BJK University's own reported figures, and individual results vary.
